School Requisite Payments

Every school in the state of Victoria is entitled to ask parents to contribute to the purchase of school requisites – some people refer to this as a school levy.

It was a payment designed to assist schools to buy basic requisites for all children in State Schools to provide for all children no matter what their economic circumstances.  Those families that are eligible for the Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) can elect to have the money directed to the school (by direct debit) and others not eligible for EMA pay directly to the school.  If you receive the money to a personal account it would then need to be withdrawn to pay for the requisites.

Most people elect to have it come directly to the school and hence do not have to worry about it for the rest of the year, but it is a personal choice.  Each family will be invoiced for their Requisite Payment according to the number of children in each family.

Many years ago the Irymple Primary School Council agreed that the Requisite Payments would always remain the same as the EMA amount allowed by the Government ($117.50 – 2013) to be fair and equitable for all families in the school – This decision gets reviewed annually by School Council. We have put a list together of the types of items we have on our requisites list to show how it is always spent.  As a school we are required to order the goods at the end of the previous year. We need to pay for them at the start of the 2013 year.  A note will be sent out Monday 4th February with the above information and an invoice for the Requisite Payment. Below is a list of all the items that we purchase with the Requisite Payment and the rest is paid by the school from general class allocations.  Many schools provide parents with a booklist for items such as these to be purchased and brought to school as well as charging a requisite levy.  This  we have chosen not to do for your convenience. We can make savings with huge bulk orders through our suppliers.
